Description
This Hazelnut is a dwarf close relative to species americana. It to is a deciduous stolonferous shrub that rarely reaches 4'High x 6'Wide. The small edible nuts grow in a husk that resemble the beak of a bird hence the name Beaked Hazelnut. It will grow well in deep shade. The nuts are protected by a husk that contains fibers that even squirrels will not attempt to open until they are shed. Good wildlife plant.
