Native to dry Limestone hills and cliffs in Southern and Western Mexico, where it grows among Quercus and Pinus species between 3000-6000 feet elevations This rarely offered beautiful fan palm has a smooth slender trunk that produces at its crown dark grey-green finely segmented leaves with white undersides. This species is the only Brahea without a thorny petioles (Frond stems). Brahea nitida is well suited for a temperate garden setting providing it has full sun and very well drained nuetral to alkaline soils. It will take moderate frosts and is considered a superb, reliable, and truly unique palm species. Matures from 15-30', slow to medium growth rate, salt tolerance?, and a low nutrition/fertilizer requirement all makes this palm a great choice. Reports of no damage at 18 Degrees F.
Notes
All of our 1 and 3 gallon size palms are grown in 14" and 18" deep pots respectively to allow for a deeper root system which aids in our Palms winter survival. Customers are having much better success with our palms surviving the winter when pushing beyond the known zone of survival of a given species.
