Description
This palm is considered to be the foundation species for the genus. Much more difficult to find than its other two silver forms 'Iran Silver' and 'Mazari Silver' this species has green fronds. Native to the far east near Afghanistan and Pakistan to the Arabian Peninsula. The genus Nannaorrhops is known to be one of the most hardy palms in the world. Rivaling the Rhapidophyllum hytrix for the cold tolerance award. Nannorrhops are reported to with withstand temps below -15 degrees with no damage. Keeping it dry in winter will aid in its survivability. Mature height is near 20' in the wild with an equal width but being a slow growing It will take some time to gain respectable size. Under home gardening conditions supplemental feeding can increase its rate of growth substantially. This palm does however make a statement in the landscape as a young specimen. Plant in a mounded well drained site and remember all the water it needs it will get is what nature provides. Enjoy this rigid tough Genus. Look at Nannorrhops 'Mazari silver' and 'Iran Silver' for the more stunning sliver/blue fronds.
