| Description |
Trachycarpus wagnerianus is fast growing species that is slightly smaller in stature than the species T. fortunei. The mature size is 10-15'High x 6'Wide, each frond rarely reaches beyond 2'Wide. A much more difficult species to find, but equally cold hardy. It can tolerate down to 1 degree. A native of Japan, it is now considered extinct in the wild due to over development. Today, this species is only found in a few gardens throughout the world, from which all the seeds come from. It is very often confused with the closely related Trachycarpus fortunei, but is considered by palm experts to be the better of the two species, especially in coastal areas because it is more drought, wind, and storm tolerant.
